The funding allowed meetings between school leaders and Specialist Leaders of Education to discuss the challenges of Assessment without Levels. Determining that schools would adopt different approaches to the curriculum from totally integrated learning to single subject based learning, any assessment mechanism need to be applicable across any chosen curriculum. Similarly, any method of planning needed to be flexible to fit in with different planning styles.

Assessment Without Levels

We have combined a series of guidelines and forms both self generated and generated outside the alliance to support teachers in planning. These involve the following:

  • Cross Curricular Skills Ladders
  • Blooms Taxonomy Theme Plan
  • Thinking Styles Plan (P4C, Mantle of the Expert, 6 Hats)
  • Teacher Delivery Plan

Planning for Mastery

We have advised on policy and procedure for planning for mastery. This involves an approach beginning with planning for perfection and moving onto problem solving to extend concepts. It separates concepts of coverage from grading, and consolidation from progression.
